From thread, yearning hearts
Anatole was rushed into the old birthing den with a gentle nudge to his flank. At 20-ish lbs. he was now too heavy to tote around by the scruff, but a good size to push and prod about. This was something the boy did not appreciate in the slightest.
Without much time to spin about and nip his father in the nose, he stumbled into the burrow. His shadow cast the place in total darkness as he resisted.
"Naptime now," Dad's voice washed over him. Anatole let out a small grumble at the sound of his name. Never mind Adora or their other siblings; she could fend for herself. Their other siblings were usually well-behaved and never called out.
The dark-masked boy slowly spun about to spy his father's side at the entrance. He might not have uttered his first solid word yet (this thing where Mother said one thing one way and his father said the same thing a different way was confusing as heck), but he knew how to make himself heard. Tension curled at his shoulders and, without thought, his still-sharp teeth found purchase in Adelard's flank.
