It was easier to get up the glorified hill than Boy expected. The closer to the peak he got, the easier the climb. It seemed odd, but he was grateful. It was closer to night than he'd like, and he hoped to be back down the slope before the sun truly set. He wanted to find a nice place to stay the night before it was too dark. He should have waited until morning to ascend, but he wanted to get a look the surrounding terrain before he continued. As he reached the top he took a moment to gaze up at the clouds. They were an odd shape, bulbous and hanging, like rain waited within and the clouds simply wouldn't let it go.
He sighed and surveyed the lands to the west. Descending that side of the peak would be more difficult; best to head back down the way he'd come and follow the river around to the north. The land seemed to open up before him. It would be easier travel for a little while he thought, depending on the prey availability. The nice thing about winter was the snow held some of the larger prey in place. He'd managed to snag a young doe all by himself because she'd gotten caught in a deep drift that his larger paws allowed him to walk over. He'd eaten his fill for days.
Boy sighed. He'd better head back down if he wanted any sort of daylight.
