Sam had spent much of the last couple weeks crying.
It started as a simple game, or maybe a determination to prove herself - just like the last time she'd gotten lost. She could see how sad her brothers and cousin still were. She couldn't bring her parents back but she could find her eldest sister and cousins. Sam could bring them home and they could all find a way to be happy again - happy with family, right? Their parents were gone but they had each other.
Only, even if she did find @Magg Sam didn't know how to get back home. Her sister probably did, but then Sam would be in trouble all over again.
At every turn Sam thought she would see Matos or Leo looking for her, or maybe she'd even find @Galen and he could help her get home. It was getting hard to hope. It was getting hard to walk. Sam was growing tired earlier and earlier and today she'd barely walked for a few hours before having to stumble to a resting place. She picked a tree at the edge of a clearing, the trees opening enough for her to see the clear blue sky. Untouched snow blanketed the meadow and had she had more energy, Jessamy would have immediately bounded through it, rolling in the powder and taking joy in being the first one here.
Maybe when she woke up.
Only, her sleep was interrupted by a horrible screech. She sat bolt upright, fur standing on end, and blinking rapidly to make her eyes adjust to the dark. How long had she been asleep?
